Behaviour Interactive recently unveiled new details about the Alien expansion in the popular asymmetrical PVP game, Dead By Daylight. This expansion introduces the iconic xenomorph from the Alien franchise as a playable horror movie villain. While I haven’t personally played Dead By Daylight, being more of an Among Us player myself, the addition of the xenomorph has piqued my interest. This article will delve into the intriguing changes this expansion brings to the game, as well as the new gameplay elements it introduces.

Changes to the Game

The highlight of the Alien expansion is the inclusion of a new map based on the Nostromo spacecraft from the Alien film. This not only provides an immersive setting for players but also introduces a new interactive map fixture called control stations. These control stations can be utilized by both the Alien and the human survivors in creative ways, adding depth to the gameplay experience.

For the survivors, the control stations offer the opportunity to acquire a remote flame turret. This powerful tool can be used to stagger and slow down the Alien, providing a temporary advantage. However, survivors must also be cautious as the flame turret requires periodic repairs to prevent overheating.

On the other hand, the Alien can utilize the tunnel mouth beneath each control station to access a special map sublevel unique to the Dead By Daylight map. This sublevel allows the xenomorph to emerge unexpectedly from various angles, embodying the essence of a self-respecting xenomorph. It adds an element of surprise and keeps the gameplay dynamic and engaging.

Joining the Cast of Survivors

Excitingly, the Alien expansion also introduces two notable characters to the cast of Survivors: Ellen Ripley and Jonesy the Cat. Ridley Scott’s iconic heroine, Ellen Ripley, brings her ingenuity and resourcefulness to the game, offering players a familiar face to root for. As for Jonesy the Cat, who often steals the spotlight, it remains to be seen if the feline companion will play a more significant role or simply be a cunning distraction.

While I may not have played Dead By Daylight, I did have the opportunity to try out Behaviour Interactive’s Meet Your Maker game. This game revolved around constructing intricate death labyrinths for other players to infiltrate. It begs the question of whether Behaviour has incorporated any valuable insights from the map-creator community of Meet Your Maker into Dead By Daylight. The significance of a well-placed flamethrower, which players of Meet Your Maker would be familiar with, cannot be understated in a game like Dead By Daylight.

The Alien expansion for Dead By Daylight brings exciting new changes and elements to the game. The addition of the xenomorph and the Nostromo map offers both fans of the Alien franchise and Dead By Daylight players a thrilling crossover experience. The inclusion of control stations, along with the introduction of Ellen Ripley and Jonesy the Cat, adds depth and variety to the gameplay. It is clear that Behaviour Interactive has put effort into expanding the Dead By Daylight universe, and it will be fascinating to see how the game evolves with this new expansion.
