Amazon India has made a groundbreaking announcement on Thursday by introducing its first-ever floating store on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. This initiative is part of their innovative last-mile delivery programme, called “I Have Space”, which aims to provide faster and reliable deliveries to customers across Srinagar.

The Unique Initiative

Murtaza Khan Kashi, the proud owner of the houseboat Selec Town, has been selected to be a part of this trailblazing onboarding process. As a member of the “I Have Space” programme, Kashi will personally deliver packages every day to customers, right at the doorstep of their houseboats. This not only ensures efficient deliveries but also adds to the charm of Amazon’s delivery network.

Benefits for Customers and Small Businesses

Karuna Shankar Pande, Director of Amazon Logistics India, believes that this initiative will bring immense benefits to customers in Srinagar. It will provide them with faster and more reliable deliveries, reducing waiting time and enhancing customer satisfaction. Additionally, this programme offers new opportunities for small businesses, empowering them to become local partners and strengthen the delivery network in the region.

Since its launch in 2015, the ‘I Have Space’ programme has gained significant traction and now boasts an impressive network of 28,000 neighbourhood and kirana partners across 420 towns and cities in India. By collaborating with local stores and small businesses within a radius of 2 to 4 kilometres, Amazon ensures prompt and efficient delivery of products.

Amazon’s flagship programme, ‘I Have Space’, follows a straightforward working model. Once enrolled, partners of the programme receive packages at their store locations, which they subsequently deliver to customers. These partners receive payments based on the volume of packages delivered. The programme has witnessed remarkable success with over 28,000 partners in more than 350 cities throughout India.

Joining the “I Have Space” Programme

One of the most impressive aspects of the ‘I Have Space’ programme is that it requires no upfront investments from its partners. Anyone can participate in the programme and contribute to the last-mile delivery process. All that is needed is a willingness to collect and deliver parcels to nearby locations. On average, an Amazon I Have Space partner can deliver between 20 and 30 packages per day, earning a fixed amount per successful delivery.

Amazon India’s floating store on Dal Lake in Srinagar marks a significant milestone in the company’s last-mile delivery programme. With the “I Have Space” initiative gaining immense popularity and empowering small businesses, Amazon continues to transform the delivery landscape in India, ensuring faster and more reliable services for customers.
