Sony has announced a new promotional sale for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) in India, offering a discount of Rs. 7,500. The sale will only be applicable to the 4K Blu-ray-equipped disc version of the console. The promotion is set to go live on Thursday, August 24, and will run for nine days until September 2. During this time, customers will have the opportunity to purchase the PS5 at a reduced price of Rs. 47,490. This discount is the same as the one offered in the previous sale in July, making it an excellent opportunity for those who missed out on the previous offer.

The discounted PS5 will be available for purchase both online and at select brick-and-mortar retailers. Online retailers such as Amazon India, Croma, Flipkart, Games the Shop, Reliance Digital, ShopatSC, Vijay Sales, and other select retailers will be participating in the promotional sale. However, it is important for potential buyers to be prepared for potential server loads, as the high demand for the console could put strain on online servers.

This second promotional sale for the PS5 in India within a one-month period has led industry insider Rishi Alwani to speculate that the console’s sales targets in the country may be lagging behind expectations. This could explain why Sony has decided to offer another discount so soon after the previous sale. However, it is important to note that neither the digital version of the console nor any game bundle variants are eligible for the discount, unless individual stores decide to implement their own discounts.

While some may speculate that the back-to-back promotional offers are meant to make room for the rumored PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro consoles, Alwani suggests that this is not the case. A leaked video earlier this month showcased a slightly slimmer version of the console with a new cover, dual USB Type-C ports in the front, and a bulge on the side, possibly for a detachable disc drive. However, these changes do not necessarily indicate the release of a PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro. Microsoft has also claimed during a court battle against the US FTC that Sony has plans for a less-expensive PS5 Slim model, which may cost $399.99 (approximately Rs. 33,093) and is expected to be released later this year. The details and improvements of this alleged new console remain unclear.

In more recent news, Sony has begun rolling out beta access to cloud streaming on the PS5. Select PS Plus Premium members can now stream games at resolutions of up to 4K. This feature allows subscribers to play a variety of games from the cloud without the need to own or download them on their console. Beta testers have the option to choose from four primary resolutions: 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p. The beta testing includes a catalog of 12 games, including popular titles like God of War Ragnarök, Death Stranding, Demon’s Souls, and Horizon Forbidden West.

The upcoming PS5 promotional sale in India presents a great opportunity for gamers to purchase the disc version of the console at a discounted price. With availability at select online and brick-and-mortar retailers, customers can take advantage of this limited-time offer. Additionally, the beta access to cloud streaming on the PS5 provides added convenience for PS Plus Premium members. While the speculation surrounding a PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro continues, it remains to be seen if Sony has any plans to release these rumored consoles in the near future.
