WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app, has recently added a new feature that allows users to send short video messages. Previously, users could only reply using instant audio or text messages, but now they have the option to record and send video messages instead.

End-to-End Encrypted Video Messages

These real-time video messages can be up to 60 seconds long, and the company claims that they are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring the privacy and security of users’ conversations. The roll-out of this new feature has already begun and will soon be available to all users globally.

How It Works

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a Facebook post to announce the new update. In a short video demonstration, he explained how this feature will work on WhatsApp. Similar to recording real-time voice messages, users will now see a video recorder icon placed next to the text box. They can simply tap on the icon to record a video of up to 60 seconds.

The official blog of WhatsApp also provided more details about this update. Video messages can be used to record birthday wishes, share good news, or convey any information with a personalized touch. To access this feature, users can click on the icon next to the text box. When someone opens a message, the video will play without sound, but tapping on the video again will enable the sound.

Roll-Out and Availability

As mentioned in the blog, this feature is currently being rolled out gradually and will soon be available to all users globally on both Android and iOS platforms. To manually access the feature, users can download the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store or the App Store.

While WhatsApp already offers the option to send pictures or videos, the addition of this new feature makes the process of sending video messages quicker and more convenient than before. Furthermore, the company’s assurance of end-to-end encryption ensures the safety of users’ conversations.

Reports about this feature first surfaced last month when WhatsApp was spotted testing video message support for Android and iOS devices. Now, with the official launch of this feature, users can enjoy a more dynamic and engaging messaging experience on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp’s new feature of sending video messages is set to enhance communication by allowing users to convey messages with a personalized touch. With end-to-end encryption for secure conversations, this update is poised to make video messaging a popular choice among WhatsApp users worldwide.
